Hong Kong Sentences Activist Joshua Wong to 10 Years in Prison

According to Bloomberg, a Hong Kong court sentenced pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong to 10 years in prison for his second national security conviction, months before he was expected to be freed. France 24 reported that the sentence was handed down on Thursday for colluding with foreign powers, after Wong pleaded guilty in September to seeking foreign sanctions against Hong Kong and China. The Guardian said Wong, 30, has been imprisoned since 2020 and is the only activist prosecuted twice under the national security law. The Globe and Mail reported the charge was colluding with foreign entities. The Wall Street Journal reported that rights groups say the security law was used as a political weapon against him.
