Editorial standards
These are the rules the site is built to enforce, not aspirations. Where a rule is a build constraint, we say so. Where it depends on a person, that person is named.
1. Every factual claim carries its source
A page cannot be published without a source URL or a document reference. The source is printed under the headline and listed in full at the end of every piece. The same rule is a database constraint in the editorial system that produces the drafts. On aggregated story pages, every headline and excerpt is the publisher's own, quoted for review and linked to the original.
2. Three tracks, three sets of rules
- The Brief repackages what other outlets reported, with attribution, and adds one original element: a document, a number we computed, a timeline. Under each item it says what we checked.
- The Files publishes only what two independent sources or one primary document with a chain of custody support, after a legal checklist and a twelve-hour cooling period. Anyone named is offered a right of reply before publication.
- The Tayo Report and Kairos Explains are opinion and explanation. The view is ours; every fact inside the view is still cited. Opinion pieces are labelled as opinion.
3. Aggregation is labelled and gated
Stories clustered from the wires are built by software and say so. A story appears under Nigeria, Africa or the 2027 Election only when its headline names a Nigerian or African actor or place, or a Nigerian outlet leads it and nothing in the headline points elsewhere. Summaries of multi-source stories are generated from the sources' own headlines and excerpts and checked automatically: any number or name that is not in the sources rejects the summary. Where sources disagree, the page says so.
4. Public benefit, stated
Under section 377 of Nigeria's Criminal Code, publishing something defamatory is not an offence only if it is true and for the public benefit. Any piece that names a person, and every investigation, carries a short statement of why it is published, visible in the copy. The build refuses the page without it.
5. No AI facts
Software gathers sources, drafts wording, checks numbers against sources and keeps cadence. It does not generate facts, quotes, statistics or interviews, and it never generates imagery of real people or real events. Any synthetic narrator or presenter is labelled on screen and in the description.
6. Pictures are ours or licensed
Photographs are our own, in the public domain, or carry a licence that permits reuse, and the credit is printed. Publishers' photographs are not reused on this site; where no licensed picture exists, the page carries a branded section mark instead.
7. Corrections are public
Every correction, clarification and update is logged with its date on /corrections and on the piece itself, with what the copy said and what it says now. Nothing is silently edited. Report an error to corrections@kairosreports.com.
8. Right of reply
The window, the process and what we do with a reply are on /about/right-of-reply.
9. Independence and funding
Kairos Reports is operated by El-Kairos International Services and is funded by its founder. It carries no advertising at the time of writing. When sponsorship or advertising is introduced, it will be labelled, it will never appear inside The Files, and sponsors will have no sight of copy before publication. This section will be updated the day that changes.
10. No trackers
The site sets no cookies, loads nothing from third parties and serves its fonts from its own domain. See /privacy.
